MOSCOW, December 20 (RIA Novosti) – The mass media in the North Caucasus plays an important role in the region’s development, Russian President Vladimir Putin told journalists on Thursday.
"Mass media, especially in the North Caucasus, plays an important role not only in calming down the situation, but also making it develop in accordance with the positive scenario,” the president said.
He also said that current cuts in media financing are due to an effort to minimize state spending.
“The government is compelled to limit expenditures in almost all spheres, including state support for the media,” Putin said.
