MOSCOW, December 23 (R-Sport) – Spartak St. Petersburg guard Patrick Beverley confirmed to R-Sport on Sunday that he has accepted an offer to join the Houston Rockets.
In his last game with the Russian team, where he has been playing since 2011, Beverley scored 10 points and made eight assists to help Spartak beat BC Nizhny Novgorod in 68-67.
“It was my last match for Spartak and I’m happy that we won,” Beverley said. “As a little kid I grew up and wanted to play in NBA. That’s my goal. I think I’ve got a very good opportunity with Houston Rockets.”
Beverley added that he would leave for Houston on Monday morning, but that he would probably have to miss Wednesday’s game against the Chicago Bulls, his hometown team.
“I’m from Chicago and the first match is against the Chicago Bulls. I don’t know if I play.” Beverley said. ”I have to take a physical and stuff like that. I’ll probably play in a week.”
Beverley, 24, had a short stint in the NBA spending a summer training camp with the Miami Heat in 2010 but failing to make the team.
In Houston, Beverley will have to compete Olympic champion guard James Harden and last year’s breakthrough Jeremy Lin.
The two-time NBA champion Houston has been unable to qualify for the playoffs for the last three seasons and currently stands seventh in the Western Conference with 14 wins in 26 games.
