The famous Strasbourg Christmas Market opened on Moscow’s Manezh Square on December 23.

The market will give visitors an opportunity to learn more about European traditions of holding Christmas markets, buy handcrafted presents and try French Christmas desserts.

Producers arrived in Moscow to present their goods themselves.

Instead of the ordinary pavilions, 20 wooden chalets were installed on the square, most of which were brought over from Strasbourg.

Performances will take place in a roofed pavilion.

The market will open on Monday and will give Muscovites and visitors to the capital the opportunity to take part in workshops, see Alsace fir trees and buy Christmas decorations, gingerbreads and chocolate made by French masters.

Tokyo has been home for the traditional Strasbourg Christmas market for the last two years. In just two weeks, the market attracted over 650 visitors and saw an unprecedented coverage by French and Japanese media.

The Strasbourg Christmas Market in Moscow will be open until January 7.
