MOSCOW, December 26 (RIA Novosti) - The former head of a local district police department near the western Russian city of Smolensk and two accomplices have been charged with kidnapping a man who later died of hypothermia, local investigators said on Wednesday.
According to investigators, on the night of December 19, the off-duty policeman and two of his friends were at a local café, where they quarreled with another customer.
The three, who were allegedly drunk at the time, beat up the man and then loaded him into the trunk of their car and dumped him in a deserted spot. The victim was found dead the next morning; doctors determined that hypothermia was the cause of death.
The policeman was sacked and faces kidnapping charges. The investigation continues.
