NEW YORK, December 27 (RIA Novosti) - Lakhdar Brahimi, the UN-Arab League Envoy for Syria, will discuss Syrian peace settlement in Moscow on December 29, UN spokesman Martin Nesirky said on Wednesday.
“The UN-Arab League Envoy for Syria will be in Moscow on December 29,” Nesirky said.
A Foreign Ministry source told RIA Novosti about the visit on Wednesday. He also said an official Syrian delegation will also visit Moscow for talks on a possible Syrian crisis solutions with the Russian leadership.
AFP reported earlier on Wednesday Syria's deputy foreign minister Faisal Muqdad boarded a plane to Moscow in the Lebanese capital Beirut amid reports of a US-Russian initiative for a transition in Syria.
Le Figaro reported that the new initiative would see President Bashar al-Assad staying in power until 2014, with no possibility of reelection.
President Bashar al-Assad and his supporters have been locked into a bloody conflict with anti-government rebel forces since March 2011. According to UN estimates, around 35,000 people have been killed since the violence began.
