MOSCOW, January 14 (RIA Novosti) - Six men have been arrested in a case of a sexual assault on a woman on a bus in India weeks after a shocking gang rape in the country, media reported.
According to CNN, Indian police have arrested six suspects, including the bus driver and conductor, following the alleged Friday night attack in the northwestern Punjab state. A manhunt for the remaining man was ongoing Sunday.
Police said that when the married 29-year-old woman remained alone in the bus, it sped past her stop. The woman was then taken to an undisclosed address and five more men joined the bus driver and his helper. The victim was raped all night before being dropped off at her place the next day, where she was able to report the crime to police.
The alleged attack is similar to a December gang rape in India when six drunk attackers assaulted a 23-year-old woman on a bus. The woman and her companion were beaten with iron bars and thrown out of the moving bus. She later died of injuries. Five of the attackers were charged with murder and face the death penalty if convicted. The assault triggered violent public protests in India.
