MOSCOW, January 15 (RIA Novosti) – Russia’s national railway company filed a lawsuit with a Moscow court on Tuesday for two million rubles (some $65,000) against the US-based Apple Inc. over what it said was a case of copyright infringement.
A spokesperson for Russian Railways [RZhD] told the Rapsi legal news agency that the lawsuit was connected to the unsanctioned use of the company’s logo in Apple’s online shop.
The spokesperson said the company was determined to defend its “intellectual property.”
The RZhD logo is used as part of a “Railway Tariff” app sold through Apple’s online store. The app provides estimates of cargo delivery costs and times across Russia.
Moscow’s Court of Arbitration confirmed that the case had been filed.
Apple Inc. could not be reached for comment as of Tuesday evening.
