YOSHKAR-OLA, January 21 (RIA Novosti) – Police in Russia’s Mari-El Republic have opened a criminal case against a security guard who mistakenly shot a friend in the head while drunk and on duty, the local Interior Ministry said Monday.
Police say the 20-year-old private security guard was showing off his unloaded pistol during a drinking session at his post on January 19 in the town of Kozmodemyansk.
Forgetting he had re-loaded the gun, the man began pointing it at his friends in a prank.
The pistol went off, hitting one of the men in the head. The victim was rushed to the hospital and remains in serious condition, police added.
The perpetrator faces a charge of intentional bodily harm.
