MOSCOW, January 23 (R-Sport) - Dynamo Moscow defenseman Janne Jalasvaara will miss at least two weeks after being repeatedly punched in the head by SKA St. Petersburg wing Evgeny Artyukhin, the team said Wednesday.
The incident took place in the first period of Dynamo’s 2-1 home defeat to SKA on Tuesday when Jalasvaara shoved former Tampa Bay Lightning wing Artyukhin, who then beat him several times in the face.
“The following diagnosis has been established: eyelid hematoma, eyeball damage, conjunctiva rupture, lacerated head wound. Four stitches were put in,” Dynamo’s press officer Mikhail Kravchenko.
“Any physical exercises are prohibited for Jalasvaara for two weeks.”
Kravchenko refused to rule out surgery, which he said would considerably lengthen Jalasvaara's time injured.
Artyukhin was given a game penalty and Dynamo will apply for him to be banned, Kravchenko said.
Artyukhin is the KHL leader on penalty minutes and could be forced to miss up to 10 games following his third game penalty of the season.
