MOSCOW, January 26 (R-Sport) - Dinamo Riga has continued its poor run in the KHL with a fifth straight defeat Saturday, going down 4-2 at Amur Khabarovsk.
Both teams have already been eliminated from playoff contention, with Amur 11th in the Eastern Conference and the Latvians 13th place in the West.
“I’m very glad that we have won today,” Amur head coach Evgeny Popikhin said on the team’s website. “These days were very busy, we worked well and I saw that the guys tried hard and wanted to win badly.”
Amur was 3-0 up by the middle of the second period, thanks to the goals from forwards Perttu Lindgren, Evgeny Orlov and Andrei Stepanov.
Amur center Vyacheslav Litovchenko increased the lead in the third period, before Miks Indrasis and ex-Washington Capitals forward Alexandre Giroux scored for Dinamo.
Indrasis blamed jetlag for the defeatafter flying to Amur, the KHL's furthest-east team.
“Of course, this flight we had had a negative impact. We flew almost ten hours. During the game I felt very bad - from the start, could not pull the legs. The feeling was awful. To play at eight in the morning also is not at all easy.”
Both, Dinamo and Amur were eliminated in the first playoffs round last season.
