MOSCOW, February 7 (RIA Novosti) - China was rated the top country in terms of gold production in 2012, taking the lead position in the world for the sixth straight year, Xinhua news agency reported on Thursday.
The agency said citing figures from the China Gold Association, that the gold production output last year reached a record of 403.05 tons, which was 11.66 percent increase against the previous year.
In 2007 China surpassed South Africa to become the leading gold producer in the world.
China is also ranked as the world’s second largest gold consumer after India with a total of over 760 tons of gold consumption in 2011, the agency said citing figures from December’s report by the China Gold Association.
