MOSCOW, February 10 (RIA Novosti) -The widow of assassinated opposition leaderِ Chokri Belaid has asked the Tunisian government to provide her family with official protection, the local media reported on Sunday.
"After the killing of Chokri I am asking the Interior Ministry to provide official protection for me and my daughters ... If any attack happens to the family, I will accuse the Interior Ministry officially," Basma Belaid said.
Belaid, an outspoken critic of the post-revolution coalition government led by the Islamist Ennahda party, was shot dead in broad daylight near his Tunis home on Wednesday.
Belaid's family has accused the ruling Ennahda party of responsibility for his killing. The Islamist party has denied any complicity in the killing.
Thousands gathered for Belaid’s funeral on Friday amid a nationwide general strike called by his trade union supporters.
