TBILISI, February 13 (RIA Novosti) – Georgian President Mikheil Saakashvili received a cold welcome on Wednesday in a village in west Georgia where protesters pelted his car with eggs, Georgia’s TV channels have reported.
Some 20 members of the Protect Georgia organization tried to block the way for the embattled president’s car procession in Narazeni, Georgia’s Zugdidi region, and crowded at a local culture center preventing Saakashvili from giving a speech there.
Saakashvili was forced to find a shelter in a private house, media reports said. Police attempted to disperse the crowd but the protesters managed to hit the president’s car with eggs.
Last week, hundreds of the Georgian president’s opponents blocked the entrance to the National Library in Tbilisi, preventing Saakashvili from delivering his annual State of the Nation address and forcing him to give a televised speech instead.
