IVANOVO, February 18 (RIA Novosti) – A BMD-2 armored combat vehicle en route to a test site collided with a car in central Russia’s Ivanovo Region, traffic police spokesman Dmitry Solovyov said Monday.
The driver of the vehicle lost control of it as he was making a right turn, and drove into oncoming traffic where an Opel sedan hit it right between the treads.
“Thanks to the vehicle’s high clearance, the car was damaged but everyone's alive,” the spokesman said. It was not immediately clear whether anyone had been hurt.
The incident was the second so far this year to involve an armored military vehicle on a regular road. In late January, the crew of a tank crossed a busy street in the Urals city of Nizhny Tagil, rolling in front of a number of cars. The tank's manufacturer, Uralvagonzavod, said at the time that the tank – which had been en route from the plant to a testing site – did not break any traffic rules because it drove through on a green light.
