GAZA, February 23 (RIA Novosti) – Palestinian authorities demand an international probe into the death of a Palestinian prisoner in an Israeli jail, local media have reported.
Arafat Jaradat, 30, from the West Bank city of Hebron died at the Meggido detention centre in northern Israel on Saturday.
Issa Qaraqaa, Palestinian minister in charge of prisoner affairs, said Jaradat was arrested a few days ago and was killed during a questioning.
Israel Prisons Service spokeswoman Sivan Weizman said he could have died of “heart attack,” without revealing any further details.
Jaradat's death could trigger tensions in Israel and the Palestinian territories, which have been rocked by protests against detention of four other Palestinians, who are on a hunger strike.
Some 4,000 Palestinians are held currently in Israeli prisons.
