MOSCOW, February 24 (RIA Novosti) – Two security officers were killed and three others wounded after a suicide car bomber struck an Afghan intelligence agency office in eastern Afghanistan, local officials said on Sunday.
The bomber targeted the National Directorate of Security in the city of Jalalabad in the Nangarhar province early on Sunday, regional government spokesman Ahmad Zia Abdulzai said.
The building was damaged in the attack, he said. Taliban spokesman Zabiullah Mujahid claimed responsibility for the suicide bomb attack.
The radical Islamic Taliban group, which was toppled in a 2001 U.S.-led campaign in Afghanistan, stages regular attacks on provincial government officials, police and civilians and plants roadside bombs to target Afghan, US and NATO troops.
International troops are preparing to withdraw from Afghanistan by the end of 2014, handing over responsibility for security in Afghanistan to local police and military.
