MOSCOW, February 27 (RIA Novosti) – Horsemeat has been detected in meat products from Europe labeled as sausage, Russia’s Federal Service for Veterinary and Phytosanitary Oversight said on Wednesday.
“During the examination of a shipment of sausages brought in by road from Europe, the presence of horse DNA was discovered,” the service told the Prime news agency.
“The documentation stated the sausages were 100 percent beef, but horse was discovered, as well as poultry and soya meat.”
The service said the sausages had been purchased from an Austrian company.
Horsemeat has been found in products labeled as beef and other meat in a number of European countries, including Britain, France and Germany.
