MOSCOW, March 2 (RIA Novosti) – Women in the ex-Soviet state of Turkmenistan will receive 40 manats or $14 this week as a gift from the state ahead of the International Women's Day, celebrated on March 8.
According to a decree signed by President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedow on Friday, all women regardless of their age and occupation will get the bonus, turkmenistan.ru website reported.
In addition, a total of 174 mothers of large families in the impoverished country will be honored ahead of the holiday.
March 8 became an official celebration in Russia soon after the Bolshevik Revolution in 1917, and remains popular in the former Soviet republics.
