TULA, March 11 (RIA Novosti) – A chicken dug up the remains of soldiers killed during World War II and wartime shells in a village courtyard near Kursk in central Russia, the local Emergencies Ministry said on Monday.
The unusual discovery was made on March 4, as the chicken dug up soil while walking in the courtyard and enjoying the spring thaw, the ministry reported.
“The chicken’s owner discovered human remains and wartime shells in the hole,” the ministry said, adding that one of the grenades had a fuse.
The Kursk Region (some 400 miles to the south of Moscow) saw one of the bloodiest World War II battles in 1943.
