KIEV, March 15 (RIA Novosti) - Ukraine’s boxing-champion-cum-lawmaker Vitali Klitschko says he is not aiming at the post of president in his political career, Correspondent daily reported on Friday.
The Democratic Initiatives foundation and the Kiev International Institution of Sociology published approval rating lists on Thursday stating Klitschko could beat incumbent President Viktor Yanukovych in the event of early presidential election.
“The presidency is not the aim but it is important for me to change the situation. To change it, because Ukraine has had enough of empty promises throughout its history of independence,” Klitschko said.
Klitschko, 41, entered the Supreme Rada, Ukraine's parliament, on October 28 last year as head of his Ukrainian Democratic Alliance for Reforms (UDAR) political party, which now holds 42 seats in the 450-seat body.
Commenting on the ratings published on Thursday, reigning WBC heavyweight world champion Klitschko, aka "Dr. Ironfist," said he treats them as “nothing else but ratings.”
