MOSCOW, March 18 (RIA Novosti) - One person was injured as a train collided with a Lada car in Moscow on Sunday evening, a law enforcement spokesman said.
“A car got under a diesel locomotive at a railroad crossing,” the spokesman said.
“Rescuers had to unblock one person blocked in the car.”
A traffic police spokesman told RIA Novosti that the car driver was injured as a result of the accident and hospitalized.
Preliminarily, the accident, which occurred in the east of the Russian capital near the Kuskovsky Tupik street, was caused by the driver running a red light.
An investigation is underway.
About 30,000 people die in traffic accidents in Russia annually. The accidents are attributed to a poor condition of roads and traffic violations, including drunk driving, running red lights and crossing into the oncoming lane.
