‘The Romanovs. The Start of the Dynasty’ Exhibition Opens in Moscow

The State Historical Museum has launched an exhibition entitled “The Romanovs. The Start of the Dynasty,” dedicated to the 400th anniversary of the end of the Time of Troubles and the establishment of a new royal dynasty. The exhibition features items depicting the time of the enthronement of the first Romanov.

The exhibition consists of two sections, “The Time of Troubles. The Birth of a New Dynasty,” and “The First Romanovs: A Portrait Against the Background of a Century.” Photo: A stand with the icon of Our Lady of Kazan.

The first section features artifacts displaying the drama and contradictions of the Time of Troubles.

A special place is dedicated to the ceremonial banner of Polish King Sigismund III Vasa, kept at the Swedish Army Museum and brought to Russia for the first time, as well as a replica of the famous 15-meter-long Stockholm Scroll (photo).

The icon of Our Lady of St. Theodore (first half of the 17th century), which, according to legend, was used by the nun Marfa to bless her son Mikhail to rule Russia.

The second section of the exhibition features items and clothes that belonged to the royal family, household articles from the tsar’s palace and gifts from the royal family to churches and monasteries.
