WASHINGTON, March 28 (RIA Novosti) - Search warrants unsealed Thursday for the first time from the Dec. 14 shooting massacre at Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown, Connecticut show there was a cache of weapons in the home where the shooter lived, including three Samurai swords, a bayonet, knives, guns and hundreds of rounds of ammunition.
“The guns used in the shootings were apparently all purchased by the shooter’s mother. There is currently no indication that the shooter attempted to purchase the guns and was denied,” said Stephen Sedensky III, the chief prosecutor investigating the case, in a statement.
A gun locker inside the home “was open when the police arrived. It was unlocked and there was no indication that it had been broken into,” he added.
Investigators say 20-year-old Adam Lanza shot his mother Nancy Lanza in her bed with a rifle on the morning of Dec. 14 and then went to the school.
Once he arrived at the school, Sedensky said, Lanza fired 154 bullets from a Bushmaster .223-model rifle, killing 20 young children and six adults before killing himself with a Glock 10mm handgun.
“It is currently estimated that the time from when the shooter shot his way into the school until he took his own life was less than five minutes,” Sedensky said.
Also recovered from the Lanza home were a book on Asperger syndrome, a certificate from the National Rifle Association, and a holiday card for Adam Lanza containing a check from his mother to buy a firearm.
The information comes from search warrants of Lanza’s home and car, which were executed under seal after the shooting. The seal date expired on Wednesday.
