ASTRAKHAN, April 3 (RIA Novosti) - Border guards in the south Russian city of Astrakhan have seized a consignment of 150 kilograms (330 pounds) of dangerous substances coming in from Kazakhstan, Federal Security Service said on Wednesday.
Four bags with 27 different types of slimming pills were discovered at a border crossing point in a Renault car traveling from Atyrau, Kazakhstan, to Astrakhan, the FSB said. All pills contained sibutramine, a dangerous substance banned in Russia.
It did not specify when the pills were seized.
The pills have been sent for laboratory tests. Based on their results, a decision will be made on whether to open a criminal case, the FSB said.
Smuggling dangerous substances into Russia carries a prison sentence of up to seven years.
