YAROSLAVL, April 4 (RIA Novosti) - A former military commander in central Russia’s Yaroslavl Region has been sentenced to two and a half years in prison for illegally selling ammunition to a private firm, the Prosecutor General’s Office said on Thursday.
Acting as part of a criminal gang, Col. Vladimir Otinov, former chief of the Russian Navy’s Air Force and Air Defense Force Logistics Directorate, in 2008 illegally classified a number of aircraft missiles and antisubmarine bombs as decommissioned ammunition to be scrapped, and then sold them to a company for 450,000 rubles (about $15,000), the office said.
All the stolen ammunition has been recovered, it added.
Otinov confessed to the crime and actively cooperated with the investigation.
The court also ordered him to pay a fine of 30,000 rubles (about $1,000).
