MOSCOW, April 4 (RIA Novosti) – Chechen leader Ramzan Kadyrov announced on Thursday an online vote for two projects that he unveiled on his Instagram account for the renovation of the capital Grozny’s tallest building, which was ravaged by fire on Wednesday.
“Designers insist that the color scheme from the previous project must be preserved so as not to spoil the concept of the architectural ensemble of Grozny City! I propose two projects for you to choose from… Well friends, it is your choice,” Kadyrov wrote in his Instagram account.
His post is supplemented by images of two projects, which both envisage preserving the building’s focal feature: the world’s largest round clock, which adorns the top of the building.
At about 6 p.m. local time on Wednesday, clouds of black smoke engulfed the tallest building of the Grozny City complex, a 40-story apartment building. The record-breaking clock remained intact and continued to show the correct time for two hours, but stopped at 8:30 p.m. local time [4:30 p.m. GMT].
A preliminary theory regarding the cause of the blaze is that it was caused by a short circuit in the air conditioning system. The fire spread rapidly to all floors of the skyscraper except the first one.
As the building is still under construction, it has no residents yet, and no one was injured in the blaze.
