HANOVER, April 8 (RIA Novosti) – Russia's President Vladimir Putin and Germany's Chancellor Angela Merkel opened Russia’s pavilion at the world’s biggest industrial fair in the German city of Hanover on Monday.

This year, Russia is participating as the partner nation in the Hannover Messe, in which over 6,500 exhibitors from 62 countries are demonstrating the latest achievements in industrial technology from April 8-12.

The Russian and German leaders made a ceremonial opening of the Hanover Trade Fair on Sunday and made a joint tour of its pavilions on Monday morning.

The Russian pavilion features exhibits from 20 Russian regions and over 160 Russian companies, a record for the number of domestic enterprises participating in an industrial fair outside Russia, Putin said at the opening.

Aside from fuel and energy companies, the Russian exhibitors include companies operating in such areas as transport machine-building, electronics and medicine, Putin said.

Russia’s main exhibits at the Hanover Trade Fair are involved in the production of new materials, energy, power engineering, new sources of energy and industrial automation processes.

The Russian pavilion is also touting the investment potential of the Russian regions, especially the industrial centers of Moscow, St. Petersburg, the Moscow Region, the Kaluga, Sverdlovsk, Novosibirsk, Nizhny Novgorod and Tomsk Regions and the Republic of Tatarstan.

Russia has participated in the annual Hanover Trade Fairs since 1994.
