The Akita Inu is named Yume, and was a gift from Japan’s Akita prefectural administration to Russian President Vladimir Putin last summer. The Karakachan (Bulgarian Shepherd) named Buffy was a gift from Bulgarian Prime Minister Boyko Borissov.

Yume, whose name was chosen by Putin and means “dream” in Japanese, was given to the president as a three-month-old puppy. Buffy’s name was suggested by a five-year-old boy named Dima Sokolov.
