MOSCOW, April 11 (RIA Novosti) - Turkey will establish a separate camp for Syrian Christians fleeing the violence in their war-torn country, Today's Zaman daily said on Thursday citing a senior official from the government’s Disaster and Emergency Management Directorate.
“One camp, which will be located near Midyat's Mor Abraham Monastery, will host 4,000 Syriacs and Christians. The other camp, which will be located in an area in Midyat on government land, will host 6,000 Syrians, including Kurds and Arabs,” the official told Today's Zaman on condition of anonymity.
Work on the camps is ongoing but the government cannot say exactly when they will start receiving refugees, the official added.
Basic supplies and resources will be provided by the Turkish Red Crescent Society, he said.
There are currently about 350,000 Syrian refugees in Turkey.
About 70,000 people have died in Syria since the start of the uprising against President Bashar Assad in March 2011, according to UN figures.
