MOSCOW, April 14 (R-Sport) - Fernando Alonso won his first Formula One Grand Prix of the season in China on Sunday with a superior pit strategy and straight-line speed.
The Spaniard started third on the grid but took the lead from championship leader Sebastian Vettel on lap 30 of 56 and never looked back, his challengers fighting among themselves for second place.
"Phenomenal, phenomenal, a fantastic weekend," a Ferrari crew member told Alonso on the pit radio after he claimed his 31th career Grand Prix win.
Kimi Raikkonen clinched second place for Lotus to add to his win in the season-opening Australian Grand Prix.
Lewis Hamilton, who led the race early on, held off Vettel for third in a dramatic final lap despite the German lighter on fuel and on softer tires.
