MINSK, April 14 (RIA Novosti) – The Belarusian Investigation Committee has opened a criminal case against a staff member who aired pornography at daytime on Belarusian music TV channel BelMuzTV, the committee said on Sunday.
“The suspect publicly aired pornographic videos for around 10 minutes on TV [at around 4 p.m. local time] and then fled the scene,” the statement said. The worker, 28, faces up to four years in jail if charged and convicted. A search for the man is ongoing.
Belarusians who were watching BelMuzTV on Saturday afternoon were surprised when they saw the explicit content, which they characterized as “hard porn.” The channel is often shown in public places, such as shopping malls and restaurants.
Prior to the scandalous broadcast, the channel aired music videos by rock band Lyapis Trubetskoi, whose songs are unofficially banned from Belarusian TV for criticizing the country’s authorities.
