MOSCOW, April 18 (RIA Novosti) – Valery Gergiev, a world-famous Russian conductor and artistic director of St. Petersburg’s Mariinsky Theater, said on Thursday he has invested in one of Russia's largest turkey meat producers to “support” the company.
Russian media reported earlier on Thursday that Gergiev owns a 15-percent stake in Russian agro-industrial holding Eurodon, a leader on the Russian turkey meat market.
“I have helped this company, it grew really fast. I think it currently occupies a niche that should be held by Russian companies, not by foreigners, even if they are a world-famous company,” Gergiev told the Prime news agency on the sidelines of the Russia Forum 2013, an annual conference on Russian business and investment.
Established in 2003, Eurodon is one of the biggest turkey meat producers in Russia, with about 35 percent of the market.
