MOSCOW, April 20 (RIA Novosti) - A 7.0-magnitude earthquake hit southwest China's Sichuan Province, killing at least five people on Saturday, Chinese media reported citing the provincial seismological bureau.
Meanwhile, over 100 people may be dead or injured after the quake, according to reports by the government of Lushan county of Ya'an city in the province, Xinhua news agency reported.
The quake, which measured 6.6 on the Richter scale according to the US Geological Survey, was strongly felt by residents in Sichuan's capital city of Chengdu, which is about 140 kilometers from Ya'an.
Over 2,000 soldiers rushed to the quake-hit area for rescue and relief work, Xinhua quoted military sources as saying Saturday.
An earthquake relief and rescue headquarters has been set up.
