MOSCOW, April 20 (RIA Novosti) – Three people were killed and four injured, and three apartments were seriously damaged in a gas explosion and fire in a residential high-rise building in Moscow’s northeast, the Russian capital’s emergencies services reported Saturday.
“Firefighters are clearing the debris that formed as a result of the explosion and fire,” an emergencies spokesman said. “The elevator shaft was destroyed.”
Gas apparently exploded in an apartment on the building’s sixth floor on Friday evening. The blast caused fire. The fire was extinguished early on Saturday.
A total of 120 Emergencies Ministry officers and 17 units of special machinery were working on the site.
The residents of the building in Shirokaya Street were evacuated and temporarily accommodated in a nearby school.
