Seasonal flooding has started in the Novgorod Region. Water levels in a lot of rivers are higher than those recorded for many years. The Ilmen Lake is nowhere near its average high water level yet, but it continues to rise.

Seasonal flooding has started in the Novgorod Region. Water levels in a lot of rivers are higher than those recorded for many years. The Ilmen Lake is nowhere near its average high water level yet, but it continues to rise.

Four roads and 129 houses are flooded. About 400 local residents live in the flood zone.

The largest flood in the past 14 years was registered in the Novgorod Region in 1999, when about 1,200 houses – home to about 6,600 residents – were flooded.

According to the Emergencies Ministry forecast, the worst flooding will occur at the start of May, when over 1,100 houses and over 2,100 residents could be affected.
