MOSCOW, April 25 (RIA Novosti) – The former head of a Federal Drug Control Service (FSKN) Moscow department detained earlier this week on suspicion of involvement in the drug trade has been put under arrest, the Investigative Committee said on Thursday.
Grant Akopyan, head of the FSKN CID department in Moscow, has been arrested as part of a criminal case that was earlier opened into the sale of more than 20 kilograms of heroin involving several FSKN officers, the committee said in a statement.
“According to the investigators, Akopyan … sold narcotic substances to people from neighboring countries,” the statement reads. “In an attempt to make his work look effective, he detained the foreigners who agreed to smuggle the drugs after selling the drugs to them.”
Investigators have filed charges of illegal dealing or trafficking of narcotics, and a judge ruled to place Akopyan under arrest.
The former official is currently being probed for possible involvement in other similar crimes.
Investigators are also trying to establish where the drugs came from.
