MOSCOW, April 27 (RIA Novosti) – More than one million people participated in a spring clean of Moscow’s parks, streets and squares on Saturday, the city’s deputy mayor said.
“Despite the miserable weather, 1.14 million people took part,” deputy mayor Pyotr Biryukov told journalists.
He said school and university students, state employees, and volunteers had participated in the clean-up.
The tradition of the all-city subbotnik (Saturday clean-up) stretches back to the Soviet era.
