BEIRUT, April 30 (RIA Novosti) – At least 10 people have been killed in an explosion in the center of the Syrian capital of Damascus, reports said on Tuesday.
Syrian state television said 13 people had died, with 70 injured.
Eyewitnesses told RIA Novosti dozens of people were killed in the blast. Local media reports said at least 10 people had died, with many injured.
The UK-based Syrian Observatory for Human Rights monitoring group said that 12 people had been killed and that the death toll was likely to rise, Reuters reported.
An employee at the Russian embassy in Damascus said staff had observed black smoke rising from the center of the city after a loud bang.
The United Nations says almost 70,000 people have died in the two years since civil war broke out in Syria.
