MOSCOW, May 7 (R-Sport) - Canadian hockey defenseman Shaone Morrisonn is to play for CSKA Moscow in the KHL next season after being traded to the Russian giant, his former team Spartak Moscow said Tuesday.

Morrisonn spent last season with Spartak, who briefly loaned him to CSKA as a playoff joker but kept his rights. Spartak provided no further details of the trade in its website statement except that defenseman Andrei Sergeev would move from CSKA to Spartak in return.

Morrisonn, who played is the second new signing for CSKA since the trade window opened April 30, after ex-Sibir defenseman Nikita Zaitsev.

Morrisonn is best known for his time in the NHL between 2002 and 2011, when he played 480 games for the Boston Bruins, Washington Capitals and Buffalo Sabres. This season, he scored six points in 48 regular-season games for Spartak and CSKA.

Spartak has been very busy since April 30 with a total of 10 new arrivals including two Canadians - goaltender Jeff Glass and defenseman Deron Quint - as well as ex-Dallas Stars forward Tom Wandell.

Other than Sergeev, Spartak announced Tuesday the arrival of right winger Dmitry Chernykh and defenseman Dmitry Megalinsky, who both left struggler Metallurg Novokuznetsk.

This season, CSKA’s hopes of a first Gagarin Cup ended with defeat to eventual champion Dynamo Moscow in the playoff quarterfinals, while Spartak’s regular-season result of 13th in the Western Conference meant a second consecutive year with no postseason action.
