MOSCOW, May 13 (RIA Novosti) – Four Polish sailors and one Russian kidnapped from a German container ship by pirates off the coast of West Africa on April 26 have been released, the Russian Foreign Ministry said on Monday.
“The sailors are in good health. All of them flew home on May 12, after undergoing medical check-ups,” the Foreign Ministry said in a statement posted on its website.
Sunship Schiffahrtskontor KG, the Germany-based owner of the vessel, City of Xiamen, which was boarded in the Gulf of Guinea off the coast of Nigeria, confirmed the information, saying that the five men were released on May 11 and had already “returned to their own countries and reunited with their families.”
The company declined to provide any additional information “for reasons of confidentiality and in order to protect the privacy of the families.”
