Russian energy giant Gazprom plans to offer foreign investors up to a 50 percent share in a project to build a liquefied natural (LNG) plant near Vladivostok in Russia’s Far East, Gazprom Deputy CEO Vitaly Markelov said on Wednesday.

ST. PETERSBURG, May 15 (RIA Novosti) - Russian energy giant Gazprom plans to offer foreign investors up to a 50 percent share in a project to build a liquefied natural (LNG) plant near Vladivostok in Russia’s Far East, Gazprom Deputy CEO Vitaly Markelov said on Wednesday.

In February, Gazprom completed and approved the investment plan for the LNG plant project.

“We are considering open approaches for foreign participants to join this project,' Markelov said, without naming potential partners. "We are offering up to 50 percent to foreign partners participating in this project,” he added.

According to Gazprom’s website, the LNG plant will be built on the Lomonosov Peninsula at Perevoznaya Bay. The plant will have three process lines with an annual capacity of 5 million tons of LNG each. The first will be put onstream in 2018.

Russia currently has one LNG plant in operation, on Sakhalin Island in the Pacific Ocean. Gazprom has considered a number of projects to build LNG plants at ports in the European part of the country, but so far none have been started.
