On Wednesday, the Moscow metro celebrated its 78th birthday. The official opening of Moscow's subway system took place on May 15, 1935.

As well as commemorating the anniversary of the opening of the Moscow metro, the launch of the exhibition train also marks the centennial of the founding of the Ryazan Region State Fine Arts Museum.

The new exhibition will display reproductions of paintings and drawings from Russian and Western European art of the 17th to early 20th centuries from the museum's collection.

In the exhibition train, passengers can see works by Alexei Savrasov, Vasily Surikov, Isaak Levitan, Ivan Shishkin, Ilya Repin, Mikhail Vrubel, Nikolai Ivanov, Alexei Venetsianov, Ivan Aivazovsky, Boris Kustodiyev, Vladimir Makovsky, Nikolai Roerich, Vasily Kandinsky and other outstanding artists.

The “gallery on wheels” project remains a hit with Muscovites and visitors to the city, having for several years now given metro passengers the chance to get up close and personal with fine art on a daily basis.

The "Watercolors" picture gallery train has been operating on the Arbatsko-Pokrovsky metro line since June 1, 2007.
