Ryan Fogle, a US diplomat working as a third secretary in the embassy’s political department, was detained on the night of May 13 as he attempted to recruit an officer from one of Russia's special services. Later the diplomat was declared persona non grata.
On May 14, the Soyuz TMA-07M landing capsule touched the ground in a designated area in Kazakhstan safely bringing back three crewmembers from the International Space Station (ISS), Chris Hadfield of Canada, Roman Romanenko of Russia and Thomas Marshburn of the United States.
