MOSCOW, May 18 (R-Sport) - World No. 1 Serena Williams set a searing pace Saturday as she reached the final of the Italian Open with a straight-sets thrashing of Romania’s Simona Halep.
The American won 6-3, 6-0 on the Roman clay and will now play either world No. 3 Victoria Azarenka or seventh-ranked Italian Sara Errani in Sunday’s final.
Williams is chasing her second title in Rome after winning in 2002.
The Italian Open is a clay-court WTA Premier tournament with a $2.37 million prize fund, and a key warm-up for the French Open later this month.
