LONDON/MOSCOW, May 24 (RIA Novosti) - The British Defense Ministry said Typhoon fighter jets were scrambled on Friday to investigate an incident in British airspace.
"An incident has occurred on an aircraft" UK police said, later adding that "two men have been arrested on suspicion of endangerment of an aircraft."
The Pakistan International Airlines plane was reported by news agencies to be heading to the UK from the Pakistani city of Lahore with 297 passengers on board.
The plane's original destination was Manchester airport, but it was diverted to Stansted, the UK's designated counter-terrorism airport 10 minutes before it was due to land.
UK police tweeted "the plane diverted to Stansted airport has now landed at the airport. Police + partners are continuing to respond."
UK broadcaster ITV reported that the Royal Air Force carries out "around a dozen such missions each year."
