CANNES, May 26 (RIA Novosti) – A love story about two young women, La Vie d'Adele, by French director Abdellatif Kechiche has won the Palme d'Or for best film at the Cannes Film Festival.
The official jury of the 66th Cannes Film Festal chaired by Steven Spielberg revealed the prize winners during the closing Ceremony on Sunday.
La Vie d'Adele - Chapitre 1 & 2 (Blue is the Warmest Color) beat 19 other films in the main competition at the world's most prestigious film festival.
Adele is a 17-year-old at high school, who loves children and wants to become a teacher. After a breakup with her boyfriend she meets Emma, an 18-year-old art student and falls in love with her. The film, based on Julie Maroh's graphic novel Blue Angel, contains many erotic scenes.
The top acting honors went to US actor Bruce Dern, 76, for his role in Nebraska and French actress Berenice Bejo, 36, for The Past (Le Passe).
Grand Prix of Cannes Film Festival went to Inside Llewyn Davis by US filmmakers Coen brothers.
The best director award got Mexico's Amat Escalante for Heli. China's Jia Zhangke received award for Best Screenplay for his A Touch of Sin.
The 66th annual Cannes Film Festival was held from May 15 to May 26.
