MOSCOW, May 27 (RIA Novosti) – Investigators launched a criminal case after a pillar crane fell on a nine-story residential building in the central Russian city of Kirov on Sunday evening, the local investigative committee said on Monday.
“As a result of the crane falling, 10 balconies were destroyed and the roof of the building was damaged, as well as 13 cars parked nearby,” the committee said on its website. No people were reported injured in the accident.
Municipal authorities said in a statement on Monday that an initial investigation had showed that the crane was not properly mounted and buffers were not installed on the rails.
A criminal case has been launched into the violation of construction work safety regulations, charges that carry a penalty of up to three years in prison.
