MOSCOW, May 27 (R-Sport) – Maria Sharapova overpowered Su-Wei Hsieh at the French Open on Monday, defeating the Taiwanese world No. 42 in straight sets.
Sharapova’s 6-2, 6-1 victory came in 54 minutes with her serve topping out at 111 mph. She hit 25 winners, compared with eight by Hsieh.
The Russian world No. 2 beat Hsieh for the second year in a row at a Grand Slam event after taking a round-32 matchup at Wimbledon in 2012.
Sharapova next faces Eugenie Bouchard, the top-ranked Canadian women’s singles player at 77 in the world.
