MOSCOW, June 2 (R-Sport) – World No. 5 David Ferrer became the first quarterfinalist of the French Open on Sunday, defeating South Africa’s Kevin Anderson in straight sets.
The Spaniard made just 11 unforced errors in rattling through a 6-3, 6-1, 6-1 victory in just an hour and 45 minutes.
Ferrer, who hasn’t dropped a single set in four matches, will now face the winner of an all-Spanish clash between 11th seed Nicolas Almagro and Tommy Robredo, seeded 32nd.
Last year, Ferrer reached his best ever result at Roland Garros, losing to the eventual champion Rafael Nadal in the semifinals.
Nadal, Roger Federer and world No. 1 Novak Djokovic are among those still in the draw, with Ferrer on course for a semifinal clash against the Swiss legend.
