MEXICO, June 9 (RIA Novosti) - Hundreds of people took part in the Naked Bike Ride in Mexico City on Saturday to demand respect for cyclists on roads and to raise awareness that bicycles belong on city streets.
Such events have been held in the Mexican capital since 2006. Organizers say the aim is to show car drivers how vulnerable a human body is and to make them treat cyclists with respect.
Some participants were absolutely naked, while others wore underwear or had their bodies painted.
Though police accompanied cyclists, they did not interfere.
The World Naked Bike Ride (WNBR) is held annually in various cities around the world since 2004. The event is aimed at promoting safe cycling, protesting against oil dependency and encouraging the use of bicycles instead of cars.
